Thomas Plomteux

Head of Prudential IT Supervision, National Bank of Belgium

Thomas Plomteux is the head of the National Bank of Belgium’s IT prudential supervision team since July 2017. In this role, he is responsible for the organization of on-site inspections, ongoing supervision work, policy setting initiatives and sector-wide analyses for a broad range of topics related to IT/cyber risk in the Belgian financial sector. Thomas and his team represent the NBB in several international working groups (at the EBA, EIOPA, BCBS, SSM, …). Thomas contributed as an expert to defining the Belgian position in the discussions on DORA organized under the umbrella of the Council of the European Union, and represented the National Bank of Belgium in the ESAs’ Joint Committee Sub-Committee on Digital Operational Resilience. He currently still represents the NBB in the Oversight Forum of the ESAs which is establishing the DORA oversight on critical third-party service providers and in the EU-SCICF, a pan-European coordination framework for systemic cyber events. Before he joined the NBB, Thomas worked as an IT project manager and team leader in other leading international companies. He holds two engineering Master degrees from K.U.Leuven (Mechatronics and Computer Science) and a Master in Business Administration (Finance concentration) from Portland State University.
